Templates
Templates shape how draft notes are structured so they match your clinic’s house style. A well-set-up template means less editing on every consultation.
Managing clinic-wide templates is typically an admin task. Availability and the exact editing options depend on your plan and version. Needs confirmation
What templates control
- The structure and headings of a draft note (for example, a SOAP layout).
- House-style formatting so drafts read consistently across the clinic.
Templates influence the draft; they don’t change the requirement to verify and approve. See Clinical notes (SOAP).
Managing templates
Review the default
Look at how drafts are currently structured.
Adjust to house style
Change the structure or headings so drafts match how your clinic documents.
Test on a practice consultation
Run a non-identifying practice capture and confirm the draft comes out as expected. See First login.
Roll out
Once you’re happy, the template applies to new drafts.
A template changes format, not clinical safety. No matter how a note is templated, the clinician still reviews every draft and is responsible for its clinical content. See Clinician approval.
Tips
- Keep templates simple. Over-complex templates create more editing, not less.
- Match your existing documentation habits so the team adopts them easily.
- Revisit templates occasionally as your clinic’s needs change.
Common mistakes
- Building a template so rigid it fights real consultations.
- Assuming a template guarantees a correct note — it only shapes the draft.
