Microphone not working
If Miraa isn’t capturing audio, it’s almost always a permission or device-selection issue, and usually quick to fix.
Symptom
- No audio is captured during a consultation.
- The microphone appears not to be picking up sound.
- You’re prompted for microphone access and capture won’t start.
Likely causes
- The browser hasn’t been granted microphone permission for Miraa.
- The wrong input device is selected.
- The microphone is muted or used by another app.
- A hardware or connection problem.
Quick checks
Check browser permission
Make sure your browser allows microphone access for the Miraa site. Look for the microphone icon in the address bar and confirm access is allowed.
Check the input device
Confirm the correct microphone is selected in your operating system’s sound settings, and that it isn’t muted.
Close other apps using the mic
Video-call and recording apps can hold the microphone. Close them and try again.
Test the microphone
Use your OS sound settings (or a quick voice memo) to confirm the mic works at all.
Step-by-step fix
Grant permission
Allow microphone access for Miraa in the browser, then reload the page.
Select the right device
Set the correct microphone as the default input, then start a fresh test capture.
Do a short practice capture
Record a brief, non-identifying test and confirm the transcript looks reasonable. See Ambient capture.
Try another browser or device
If it still fails, try a different browser or device to isolate the problem.
If you discover mid-consultation that audio wasn’t captured, don’t rely on a missing transcript. Document from memory as you normally would — your note is still your responsibility.
When to contact support
Contact support if the microphone works in other apps but never in Miraa, after you’ve confirmed permissions and device selection.
What to include when reporting
- Your browser and version, and your device/OS.
- Whether the mic works in other apps.
- What you see when capture should start (no patient details).
